This 2024 edition in La Trinité-sur-Mer (Morbihan) took place from 17 to 20 May, featuring the “Grand Surprise” boats. The event brought together a competitive field, making the victory even more significant.

In Angola, faced with tumultuous weather, a small fishing vessel tragically capsized.

Without hesitation, the team from STAPEM Narval stepped in during this crucial moment, embodying our commitment to solidarity and swift action.

Four fishermen were left in peril. One of the most poignant interventions involved resuscitating one individual who initially showed no vital signs. It’s with profound gratitude that we share that, due to concerted efforts and divine grace, all were successfully saved. Thankfully, they are now all safe and set to be returned to Soyo.

We share this story not for promotional purposes, but to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the STAPEM Narval team who acted swiftly and decisively to aid those in need. Their actions serve as a testament to the spirit of collaboration and unity during challenging times.

An extraordinary event occurred on the 13th of July as the dedicated and compassionate crew of STAPEM Offshore once again demonstrated their commitment to the environment and marine life. The story unfolded during an afternoon shift on the FPSO Pazflor located in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The deck team, consisting of José Makitoko, Josias Ntela, Pascoal Mbambi, and crane operator José Kuilo, were preparing for the afternoon’s tasks when they noticed something unusual. A whale was slowly ascending along the port side of the FPSO Pazflor, seemingly in distress. Unlike its oceanic counterparts, the gentle giant did not dive into the water and appeared to be dragging something behind.

Without hesitation, they alerted the deck supervisor, Georges Colleter, who swiftly assessed the situation. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, he sought permission from the site manager to send the marine team to investigate further. The manager gave the green light but urged the team to take no unnecessary risks.

Swiftly springing into action, the marine team, comprising Ezequiel Nascimento, Franck Mazzilli, Aleixo Yaba, and Rémi Carrara, embarked on a mission of mercy. Assisted by the deck team, the workboat was launched, and the team set course towards the troubled marine creature, found a mile north of Pazflor, near the offloading buoy.

Approaching cautiously, they were able to observe that the whale was indeed entangled in a large fishing net, hindered further by an enormous attached float. Unperturbed, the team decided to aid the whale by carefully cutting away the net, a task they knew required patience, courage, and precision.

With a diving knife attached to the pole of a gaff, they began the delicate task of cutting the net away. The operation took an intense three hours, with the whale retreating intermittently, only to stop and allow the team to continue their work.

After tireless efforts, the team finally managed to free the whale, and the net was secured to the back of their boat. They took a few more photos for record-keeping before heading back to the Pazflor. Shortly after their departure, the whale dived and disappeared, undoubtedly relieved and grateful for the unexpected rescue.

The STAPEM Offshore crew’s quick thinking and selfless act not only saved the life of a magnificent creature but also further safeguarded our marine environment by removing a large piece of abandoned fishing net, which was later discarded appropriately.

This extraordinary event serves as a testament to the values of STAPEM Offshore and its dedicated team, who, along with their professional duties, embrace a stewardship role towards our precious marine life.

Sail4Energy, the annual corporate regatta, recently concluded on the picturesque island of Frioul (Marseille).

The event, which is known for promoting team spirit and collaboration among participating companies, was a huge success this year with 12 teams competing against each other in an intense sailing race.

The regatta was attended by a group of skilled and enthusiastic participants, including Arthur, Benoit, Eliott, Elodie, Juan Sebastian, Ross and Spyridon. STAPEM Group displayed great teamwork and sporting commitment throughout the race, which helped them to secure the 6th position in the overall standings.

“The Sail 4 Energy regatta is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a team and show our skills and competitive spirit on the water” said Elodie, a member of the STAPEM Group crew. “We are thrilled to have improved our position by two places from last year, and we are grateful for the support and encouragement of our fellow team members.”

The Sail Energy Corporate Regatta is known for its challenging racecourse and the spirit of camaraderie it promotes among participating companies. This year’s regatta was no exception, with teams working together and displaying great sportsmanship throughout the race.

Founded more than 130 years ago, the Luanda’s Naval Club is a place of well-being.

On weekends, families get together and share games and moments of conviviality.

The young athletes of the club take part in water races and wear the colours of Angola at the summit.

Unfortunately, after high tide, the Naval Club is invaded by plastic waste.

We have decided to act by participating, on February 10 2020, in a waste collection operation. In 2 hours, our 35 volunteers collected no less than 20 bags of rubbish.

Our hands and fingers are our most valuable tools

The hand is one of the most complex parts of our body – the movement of the tendons, bones, tissues and nerves allows us to grip and do a wide variety of complex jobs.
Without our hands it would be extremely difficult to do routine simple tasks, such as opening doors, using a fork, or tying our shoes. Hand injuries are likely when the wrong tool is used or the right tool is used improperly.

Delivering safe & efficient hose services

Obtaining a leak-free flange connection can be a difficult task on-site without a plethora of equipment to fall back on. This is even more true when the operation takes place offshore, with tough weather conditions. A proper gasket installation, bolts with correct tension, and an evenly divided bolt strength must be adhered to create a good flange connection.

In our Kwanda base (located in Soyo, near to Angola’s most productive offshore blocks), we provide all aspects of floating hose management. Line assembly, disassembly, torquing, cleaning, inspection: these operations require dexterity & regular training.

An homemade simulator for safe flange torquing

Based on these observations, our teams in Soyo build an homemade training equipment to explain to the workers the importance of crush & pinch points. Hands and fingers must be kept clear from these areas at all time.

This simple yet effective color code system warns of safety hazard and should prevent bolting incidents and increase productivity on the job. On-site safety training is given to tool operators on a regular basis to make sure that anyone who handles a tool is up to date on the latest safety procedures. Keep torquing safe!

Offshore mooring systems operate in demanding environments

A number of large deep water oil fields offshore West Africa are developed on the basis of a large spread moored FPSO with a CALM buoy. Located at a safe distance from the FPSO, these buoys allow tankers to moor alongside for oil off-loading operations.

The tanker is usually moored to the buoy by means of a hawser arrangement, which consists of nylon or polyester ropes shacked to an integrated hook on the buoy deck. With the effects of the swell, the hawsers tend to rub against the buoy.

In order to absorb these shocks, the hull of the buoy is often protected by wood planks, which is sometimes severely tested in such demanding environments.

On the Block 17 (Angola) our staff ensure the continuity of operations safely

In order to avoid any wear of the wood planks – that could lead to a direct contact of the hawser with hull of the buoy (and a potential flooding of the cofferdam if fully damaged) – our dedicated team onboard Pazflor FPSO have shown remarkable initiative.

The STAPEM Offshore team manufactured an ‘in-house’ fender with some scrap hoses from a portable pump.

In a recent report, our client Total E&P Angola honoured the initiative of our staff : “The primary role of the fender is fully satisfactory after few months. The hull of the buoy is protected. Some improvements have been identified, a second version is already prepared with old hoses again and will be installed when necessary”.

FSO Palanca shutdown for maintenance

The 256 meters long and 60 meters wide storage vessel (Block 3/05 – Angola) was recently shutdown for maintenance. In line with standard industry practice, this production shutdown was essential to ensure the ongoing reliability and integrity of the FSO.

Deadlines and costs to be met

Taking advantage of this period, Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção requested STAPEM Offshore to carry out planned maintenance operations in saturation diving on key equipment of the FSO.
Performed at a maximum depth of 82 meters, the main missions consisted of changing-out import hoses (from PLEM to FSO turret), replacing a bypass spool & installing a containment clamp on a water injection line.
Saturation diving was the logical solution for this mission due to the water depth because it avoids accidents during the decompression phase that are inherent to conventional diving. In addition it saved time (without decompression phases, the teams were able to work round-the-clock shifts), which compensated for the slightly higher daily operating costs. This type of diving thus requires a considerable amount of equipment, including a living area and a decompression chamber, as well as a diving bell to reach the working depth.

Success of a turnkey project

To achieve this challenge, STAPEM Offshore sub-contracted the DSV Constructor (Boskalis). Beyond the technical challenges, STAPEM Offshore carried out the full project documentation preparation, the offshore logistics during the project execution, as well as a rapid vessel mobilization due to the client’s constraints.
Over the last few years STAPEM Offshore has been focused on progressively developing its capabilities to offer beyond the diving, a full range of integrated services up to turnkey projects. Let’s go STAPEM!

In order to meet the increasing diving needs of the oil & gas industry, STAPEM Offshore recently ordered to Unique Hydra a 3 diver Wet Bell Launch & Recovery System.

Equipped with surface supplied mixed gas dive control, this combined diving unit suits tough usage and demanding conditions, in depths of up to 75m.

Designed, engineered and built in accordance with the regulations of the professional diving industry (IMCA & ABS approved), this equipment combines divers control room, umbilical storage and management solution,  all in one ISO container footprint.

STAPEM Offshore has made further progress in its growth and positioning strategy in emerging Middle East markets with the announcement of a new subsidiary: STAPEM Offshore Middle East.

Through this subsidiary, the company aims to supply both the Middle East and global markets with high-quality, cost-competitive services in a timely and stable manner.

As a first success, STAPEM Offshore Middle East has been awarded with a long-term contract by North Oil Company in Qatar (a joint-venture between Qatar Petroleum and Total) for marine inspection, repair & maintenance services on Al Shaheen field.

Total Exploration & Production Angola (TEPA) requested an inspection of the buoys and moorings used by surfers in Luanda Bay, in front of the Sonils dock.

An inaugural mission which allowed STAPEM Offshore to implement some of the many possibilities of the STAPEM Beluga, our brand new Offshore Diving Support Catamaran just arrived from South Africa.

For this first job, a preliminary cleaning of the mooring lines and buoys was needed. It was an easy job for the STAPEM Beluga ! Indeed, the vessel is equipped as standard with a cavitation cleaning system (CaviBlaster) & some handy hydraulic tools.

Then the divers carried out the surveys, recorded in full HD mode on the brand new integrated video system.

After the operation, TEPA requested to set up a new mooring on a buoy. For this installation, the diving team has been able to count on the Hyva crane, installed on the Beluga deck.

It was a safe & easy job for our divers, who were all very impressed by the technical qualities of this versatile & good looking vessel.

Technology Oilfield Services Congo has been awarded by Boskalis with the Djeno Bluewater buoy reinstallation project. Fully completed in January 2018, the main task for TOS Congo was the Trelleborg offloading hose lines assembly (including leak-test with third party approval).
These two hose lines are now securely stored in water, in front of the TOS Congo Yard, awaiting to be towed offshore.

Ocuvolo – Eyes from the sky

STAPEM Offshore has recently purchased two OBServation Remotely Operated Vehicles (OBSROV) from Saab Seaeye. Lightweight and portable, these ROV go where they’re needed – inshore, offshore, down tunnels or for flyaway operations such as search, inspection and maintenance tasks.

Mid-November, STAPEM Offshore has been contracted by SONANGOL P&P to supply the assistance of one ROV, consisting in a seabed survey around a platform of the Block 3 (Angola).

The ROV was deployed down to the base of the platform, at 42m below sea level (ROV max depth is 300m) and flew during two days in the vicinity of the structure. The ROV enables STAPEM Offshore to establish an updated mapping of the soil conditions and to identify potential hazards.

We would like to thank the whole team involved in this operation, which was carried out safely.

Clément – who worked as a commercial diver for STAPEM Offshore in 2012 & 2013 – is an extraordinary example of strength, courage and determination.

Despite a violent & unprovoked street attack that he suffered at the end of 2013, where Clément’s brain was seriously damaged, Clément fought. Against all pessimistic doctors opinions, with courage and determination, Clément is progressively back in the saddle.
Step by step, through rehabilitation program and sports training sessions, Clément continues to progress.

On Sunday, 1st October 2017, between land and sea, Clément participates to a 16km running trail around Cap Sicié (La Seyne-sur-Mer – Southern France), which he completed in less than 3 hours.

All the STAPEM Offshore team keeps a profound admiration and respect for Clément, whose courage, strength & resilience impressed us a lot.

Clément makes us remember that it is possible, with determination and hard work, to do anything we want to – even if we have been told that achieving something was impossible.

Imagine “Raymonde”, a little Renault 4L car making its way through the Moroccan desert. No, it’s not a mirage, it’s a great sponsorship initiative! STAPEM Offshore took part in the 4L Trophy rally, 2017 edition, by sponsoring Sophie Weiss & Orianne Saerens’ crew, “Les 4L’ectrons”.

During this last edition, 1,450 teams (2,900 competitors) from 1,460 colleges and universities took off from the Halle Iraty in Biarritz. Their goal was Marrakesh, the final destination at the end of a 10 day trip covering nearly 6000 km of French, Spanish roads as well as Moroccan off-road tracks.

However, the 4L Trophy Rally is more than just a few lines of figures: it’s an amazing humanitarian adventure filled with challenges that encourage sporting prowess and charitable activity, open to students aged between 18 and 28. The challenge for the competitors is not to drive quickly but to drive efficiently enough to get to the finish line. And that obliges them to put into action the true meaning of the word « support » thus striving to avoid the pitfalls where many will fall by the wayside, unable to escape the sands and helping their fellow competitors to fix their mechanical breakdowns. Only this support to and from other contestants creates a big satisfaction for all :
a well done job followed by pride in having given everything for themselves and for others.

As well as their thirst for the wide open spaces, the crews set off in their Renault 4Ls, carrying equipment and school supplies to help Morocco’s most underprivileged children.
Solidarity for the local populations is not just a buzzword for the 4L Trophy Rally: it’s embedded in its DNA.

STAPEM Offshore has been selected as a diving company by Subsea 7 for a major EPCI contract, GFR project (Giza, Fayoum and Raven) off Alexandria, Egypt for BP and partner DEA (Deutsche Erdoel AG).

As a part of the second phase of the West Nile Delta project (WND), STAPEM Offshore will participate with Subsea 7 on the Antares Barge to the first stage, commencing in June 2017 with the landfall and shallow water pipe lay.

STAPEM BELUGA & STAPEM NARVAL

Designed specifically to support offshore diving operations, the vessels have an aft exterior deck that utilizes available space by combining deck lockers and racks for diving equipment storage. The vessel will have four fold-down dive ladders for water access, three swing davits for assisting divers, and one equipment deck crane for additional operational support.

The bow configuration is designed for efficient interaction with personal transfer ladders of offshore FPSOs and platforms. Robust fendering is to be provided around the perimeter of the vessel to protect it from damage.

The main cabin has an SL3 diving operations panel for monitoring dives along with seating for 14.

Designed to achieve speeds in excess of 20 knots, the vessel will have two MAN D2876LE402 main engines, each coupled to a Hamilton HJ403 waterjet through ZF 360 gearboxes.

Electrical power for the vessel and all dive operations will be provided by two Fischer Panda generators.

Other items fitted below deck include a hydraulic power unit system with its own designated engine and pump, a Caviblaster system,both high pressure and low pressure compressors and storage systems.

As part of its expansion into the Gulf of Guinea region, STAPEM Offshore has won a new client in Ivory Coast. In April 2017, the company won the tender launched by FOXTROT INTERNATIONAL for the inspection of its two PFA & PFB platforms located on the CI-27 block. For this program, STAPEM has developed the intervention procedures and mobilized  a dynamically positioned vessel with a diving support including an air diving unit and a work ROV assembly.

According to the structural analyzes carried out by MAREAL Engineering, STAPEM specialists have realized up to -40m of inspection using ACFM technology (alternating current field measurement). The work ROV carried out the detailed visual inspection of the two platforms up to 110m.

STAPEM Offshore has organized an event for the World Safety Day on all operation sites. Offshore, our teams have been doing it jointly with our clients and onshore the developed theme has been Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis. The same training session has been done for all our staff in Angola and in Congo.

It has been a great event which allows us to share our vision of safety and remind it to everybody.

The annual HSE awards ceremony, hosted by Total E&P Angola, celebrates companies that demonstrate a conscious effort in the field of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).

STAPEM Offshore is proud to announce that Hervé Leroy, STAPEM Offshore Dive Technician on the B17 (Angola), won the second place among all private sector companies in the category “Best practices”. He was therefore given a silver reward.

After 5 years performing marine services contract work on Block 17 in Angola, our Client – Total E&P Angola – has decided to renew his trust with a new and extended contract increasing our initial scope of work and services. As before, STAPEM Marine teams were in charge of:

· FPSO offshore logistics
· Export tanker loading operations
· FPSO loading/offloading operations
· Marine equipment inspection and maintenance

Now and as core activities, STAPEM Offshore teams are in charge of:

· Vessels inspections (marine inspection, OVID, Dynamic and Positioning Supervision)
· Lifting operations
· Deck operations and supervision (cargos, bunkering)

Through its first contract, STAPEM Offshore has been able to demonstrate its extensive marine experience and is proud to provide its customers with the high level of performance required in the Oil and Gas industries.

In october 2016, STAPEM Offshore performed free span corrections on Chevron’s oil field in Cabinda with Jifmar multipurpose vessel Roxane Z chartered by Saipem.

Between 6 and 12m depth, ULO Bags with cement injection have been installed to correct free spans at KP3 and KP9 on Cabgos OE18’’ pipeline.

Technology Oilfield Services Congo intervened on the propeller shaft protector system of a french navy ship (Aviso LV Lavalee) in Pointe-Noire area. An underwater welding assistance that allowed the navy ship to carry on its Corymbe mission in the gulf of Guinea.

The Corymbe operational presence has been led almost permanently since 1990 by the French armed forces. In relation with the neighbour Navies, it participates in the reduction of the maritime insecurity and in the protection of French interests.
